(Don’t) Build It and They Will Come

Oregon Convention Center: Room B110-B112
Track: Net Positive Water

The merits of creating a community garden are well founded, especially a garden that grows culturally appropriate foods for new immigrants and refugees. But how do you take a great idea and turn it into a functioning growing space? Follow the journey of Hillside Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden from one acre of asphalt to thriving community asset. A panel of partners from faith based, public sector and relief agencies share how they generated funding, engaged a diverse community, developed an inclusive design and secured irrigation water all while working to avoid club root among the crucifers.
