Big Actions, Bold Changes: Hampshire College’s Path Towards a Regenerative Future

Oregon Convention Center: Room B113
Track: Community

Hampshire College was founded as an experimenting institution, intent on transforming higher education through critical inquiry that inspires lifelong passion for positive change.  The R.W. Kern Center is the gateway to the campus and demonstrates what is possible for today’s academic buildings: designed to be entirely self-sustaining and meet the Living Building Challenge generates its own energy, harvests its own water, and treats 100% of waste. The Kern Center stimulates current and future generations of leaders to develop solutions for a sustainable future. Kern C. is in fact a living element of the institution. As a catalyst for innovative research, learning and exploration, the systems of the Center have inspired student driven research.
