Opportunities for Innovation: Green Chemistry Challenges for Building Products

Oregon Convention Center: Room A107-A109
Track: Healthy Materials

Imagine if products were designed with a focus on users and their health, supporting the environment through careful use of natural resources and ecosystem services. Designers and owners are often faced with a dilemma: choose a product that is not healthy or choose an alternative that is also problematic.  Product manufacturers often hit roadblocks after product assessment due to lack of alternative options.

Product manufacturers would benefit from hearing directly from designers and end users so that they can plan to develop new products that will be welcomed in the marketplace.  The session will present the challenges that designers and owners are facing in trying to find the best solutions to product selection for projects pursuing the Living Building Challenge. Additionally, we will explore what we can do to focus green chemistry innovators on the challenges in the building product marketplace today - providing the industry with a roadmap of opportunities.
